News on planning and consultation

Planning permission granted

We are pleased to announce that our planning application for the University of Birmingham School has been approved. Construction can now begin so that we will be ready to open in September 2015.

Thank you to those who participated in the consultation process. The feedback was used to develop and to refine our original proposals, as outlined below. Further details regarding the plans and construction period, including timings, will be available online soon.

Pre-application consultation

In the Summer, the University carried out consultation on early site and building plans, ahead of submitting for planning permission. You can read a report on the findings from this pre-application consultation (PDF - 188KB), including recommendations made to the University.

The feedback received on the pre-application site and building plans was used to inform further development and refinement of the proposals ahead of the planning submission. The information regarding our planning application for the School that was made to Birmingham City Council is available to view via their Planning website, application number 2013/08357/PA.

You can read the University’s preliminary response to the consultation findings and recommendations (PDF - 45KB), including changes made to the plans as a result.

Updated site and building plans

The School will open in purpose-built accommodation on the University’s Selly Oak campus (B29 6QW), at the corner of Weoley Park and Bristol roads. The building will be set within the existing landscape, replacing a number of derelict and under-used buildings and adjacent to the Orchard Resource Learning Centre.  The site is close to bus routes and the Selly Oak train station.

You can see an overview of the updated site and building plans (PDF - 13.7MB). There is also an overall site plan, and details of the additional proposed parking (PDF - 5.62MB).
